📊 Your holiday plan is built around five days. your customers shop for eight weeks

On October 22, marketing platform Acoustic published its 2026 Cyber 5 Gap Report, built on separate surveys of shoppers and retail marketers. One finding stands out: 73% of surveyed Cyber Five shoppers did most of their holiday buying outside Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday.

Meanwhile, 69% of surveyed retail marketers said they build holiday plans around promotional dates and offers.

Here are four numbers from the report, and what each one suggests changing.

Number 1: 73% bought mostly outside the five days

The move: split your holiday budget across three windows instead of one. Early November for planners, Cyber Five for deal-seekers, and December for gift-finishers. In my judgment, a 30-40-30 split is a reasonable starting point to test against your own sales history.

Number 2: 54% cut off at least one brand

More than half of shoppers who received holiday messages unsubscribed, opted out or took another step to stop hearing from at least one brand. Of those, 53% said the main reason was too many messages.

The move: set a weekly message cap per person across email and SMS for November and December, and hold it even during Cyber Five. Track unsubscribes by week to see where the cap breaks.

Number 3: Triggered emails clicked 3.9 times better

Across Acoustic's own sender base in August and September 2026, behavior-triggered emails had a 5.50% click-through rate against 1.42% for scheduled emails. The report notes this data is observational and may not generalize.

The move: before adding another scheduled holiday blast, check your triggered flows. Browse, cart, and back-in-stock messages respond to what a shopper is doing right now, which matters more during a long, spread-out season.

Number 4: 28% bought elsewhere after a sellout

Shoppers who hit a sold-out item often bought it from another retailer.

The move: identify your ten most likely sellouts and prepare an alternative for each: a similar product, a restock alert or a pre-order option. Put the alternative on the product page before the item sells out.

A note on the data

The shopper survey covered 1,048 US adults who bought online during last year's Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, and the marketer survey covered 295 in-house retail marketers. The two groups are separate, so comparisons between them reflect different perspectives rather than matched experiences.

Where to start

Pull last year's daily revenue from November 1 to December 24. If most of it fell outside the five days, your plan should look the same way.

Your BFCM Creator Calendar is Already Mapped

Still sourcing creators when your Black Friday ads should be running? Every delay leaves less time to test what actually sells before your biggest spending weeks.

Insense’s free BFCM + Q5 Creator Marketing Playbook gives marketers a week-by-week plan from September through January, so every creator campaign starts with a clear deadline and purpose.

Inside, you’ll find:

  • A week-by-week August-to-January calendar showing when to secure permissions, test content, scale winning creators, and move into Q5.
  • A practical creator scorecard using conversions, engagement quality, and reliability, so November budgets back proven performers over follower counts.
  • Q5 action plan covering licence extensions, January creative, and the recommended 10–15% budget reserve for the lower-cost post-holiday window.

You’ll also get benchmarks for creator-handle ads, modular UGC testing, live shopping, hook rates, and creative volume, helping your team set measurable targets before spending rises.

⚡ Meta’s product browsing update could change ad performance

This post highlights a reported Meta update that may introduce an in-app product browsing experience before shoppers reach an advertiser’s website. The concern is how this additional step could affect landing-page traffic, tracking, and conversion performance ahead of BFCM.

Why it works: Personalized product discovery could help shoppers explore relevant products without immediately leaving Meta. For advertisers, reviewing the setting provides greater control over the customer journey and helps avoid unexpected changes during peak campaigns.

Where it needs balance: Meta’s reported 3% conversion lift doesn't guarantee better results for every advertiser. An additional browsing step could help or hurt performance depending on the product and funnel. The rollout details and opt-out behavior also need verification before treating the change as universal.

🎥 Reel of the Day

What Works:

1. Trend Adaptation Strategy - The brand recreates the viral twin telepathy challenge using its own creators, borrowing an already recognizable format.

2. Entertainment-Led Branding - Instead of showcasing products through conventional fashion poses, the brand incorporates matching hoodies and sweatpants into the challenge.

3. Community-Driven Engagement - The guessing format encourages viewers to compare outcomes, debate whether twin telepathy is real, and tag friends. This low-effort participation creates natural conversation opportunities beyond the brand's existing audience.

Adapt a viral challenge with unexpected participants, build anticipation through familiar examples, and integrate branded products naturally into the final payoff without disrupting the entertainment.
