👀Your brand might be visible in one mode and invisible in the other

A recent study tested 100 prompts across 20 buyer journeys, running each prompt once in ChatGPT’s standard mode and once in Thinking mode. Only 25.6% of cited domains appeared in both. Nearly three quarters of the sources visible in one mode disappeared in the other, even though the underlying question hadn’t changed.

That’s a much bigger shift than most AI visibility reports currently capture.

The answer changed because the source pool changed

Thinking mode didn’t just search more.

It evaluated differently.

The type of content winning changed as well.

Reddit citations fell from 15% to 7%. User-generated content and review sites dropped from 14.3% to 6%. Government and academic sources grew from 1.9% to 8.8%, while official documentation and support pages increased from 12.4% to 17.5%.

The model wasn’t simply gathering more information.

It was becoming more selective about what counted as trustworthy.

Build for the source pool that’s growing

Those shifts point toward a different content strategy.

Documentation-style pages, product specifications, structured comparisons and original research all match the kind of evidence Thinking mode increasingly favors. They present clear, verifiable claims that can be cited directly instead of forcing the model to assemble an answer from scattered paragraphs or rely on opinion-driven sources.

That also explains why user-generated reviews alone are becoming less dependable as a visibility strategy. They still have value, but they no longer carry the same weight once the model starts cross-checking information across a much larger set of sources.

Recent AEO research has found that pages updated within the last three months earn 3× more AI citations, while clear heading hierarchies increase citation rates by 2.8×, reinforcing that freshness and extractable structure matter alongside authority.

AirOps’ State of AEO 2026 brings those benchmarks together in one place. Get the State of AEO Report.

Test both modes before changing your content

A practical audit is straightforward.

Run the same prompts twice. First, ask simple factual questions. Then rewrite those prompts as genuine comparison or evaluation questions that encourage deeper reasoning.

If your brand appears consistently in standard responses but disappears in deeper reasoning, you’ve uncovered a content gap rather than a ranking problem.

Adding documentation-style pages for your core product claims, backed by specific numbers or original evidence, is often the fastest way to close it.

A single visibility score can hide two very different realities. The brands that continue appearing as AI reasoning becomes more rigorous are usually the ones publishing content that functions as evidence, not just explanation.

⚡Subscription growth is mostly retention infrastructure

This framework argues that subscription brands should optimize the entire subscriber lifecycle, not just acquisition. Billing flexibility, payment recovery, onboarding, cancellation saves, and reactivation can all protect recurring revenue that would otherwise quietly disappear.

Why it works: Many cancellations come from preventable friction, failed payments, poor product routines, or badly timed communication. Giving subscribers more control while improving dunning and lifecycle messaging can increase retention without requiring more acquisition spend.

Where it needs balance: Not every tactic or benchmark will translate across categories. Consumption cycles, churn reasons, margins, and customer behavior vary significantly. Brands should test each intervention against retained revenue and long-term subscriber value, not just short-term churn reduction.

🎥 Reel of the Day

What Works:

1. The review becomes the plot - Instead of defending a one-star review, the brand literally acts on it. “Give it to the cats” becomes the setup for the entire story.

2. The ending rewrites everything you watched - The cats are revealed as the masterminds who apparently wrote the bad review to get free pizza. That retroactively makes the ridiculous premise feel clever rather than random.

3. AI is used for the impossible punchline - The clever part is not simply “using AI.” AI appears only where reality cannot deliver the joke, making the cats' involvement possible without making the whole Reel feel synthetic.

Turn customer comments into fictional worlds. Take a funny review literally, then exaggerate its logic until the final reveal transforms an ordinary customer interaction into entertainment people want to share.
