Reddit stopped being asked
Plus, ChatGPT changed which sites it queries. The fix is not more mentions; it is being directly answerable. Keyword relevance doesn't guarantee profitability, and more!

🔍 The question changed from getting cited to getting asked
Reddit's share of ChatGPT Search citations averaged 3.83% from July 18 through August 7, then 0.52% between August 14 and 17, an 86% decline per Promptwatch. Other trackers put the pre-drop baseline several times higher, which tells you how unstable this measurement layer is.
The leading theory underneath the collapse is the part that changes what you build. On August 8, Promptwatch observed ChatGPT's domain-scoped fanout queries jump from 0.37% to 16.8% of all searches it ran.
The reading gaining traction is that ChatGPT now often decides which sites to ask and goes directly to them, rather than querying the open web and citing what returns. Promptwatch notes its data shows when the shift happened, not why, and competing explanations are live. Build against the mechanism, but do not bet the quarter on it.
Test whether your own domain survives a scoped query
Run a domain-scoped search against your own site for the five questions your category actually gets asked. Not your keywords. The questions.
If the scoped result returns a category page, a blog index, or a post that gestures at an answer across four sections, a model running the same query gets nothing worth citing. Twenty minutes, and the most diagnostic thing you can do this week.
Build pages that complete an answer without a second click
Topic clusters were built for a crawler that followed links and assembled understanding across a site. A scoped query asks one narrow question of one domain and takes what comes back, so a page needing internal navigation to finish its own answer returns a fragment.
Rewrite your highest-intent pages so the complete answer, qualifiers and exceptions included, sits above any link. Then check whether your most-linked internal pages actually answer questions or are just the ones you linked most.
Diversify by crawl access, not by reach
If your visibility strategy leaned on a single high-authority platform, the exposure was never about that platform. It depended on one source you do not control and cannot audit.
Rank every domain where your brand appears by one variable: whether it is likely to stay directly crawlable and queryable. Open publisher sites outrank walled communities here regardless of audience size. That the audit rarely gets run is no mystery: AirOps surveyed 300+ CMOs and VPs and found 86.6% prioritizing AI search while just 23% feel confident measuring its impact. You can get the Marketing Leaders Reality Index.
Reddit had a signed licensing arrangement and still lost most of its citation footprint in a week, with no notice and no confirmed cause. Anything you cannot audit directly is a position you are holding on trust.

⚡Keyword relevance doesn't guarantee profitability

This framework argues that targeting the right keyword is only half the equation. A keyword can perfectly describe your product while the surrounding market makes it commercially unattractive because competitors have stronger pricing, reviews, imagery, or positioning.
Why it works: Reviewing the actual search results reveals what shoppers compare you against. That context helps determine whether more traffic is valuable or whether the product, price, and offer need improvement first.
Where it needs balance: Being more expensive doesn't automatically make a keyword unprofitable. Strong differentiation, brand trust, superior reviews, or a better product can justify a premium. The key is understanding why shoppers would choose you at that price.
🎥 Reel of the day

What Works:
1. Cuteness stops the scroll - The tiny dog’s face perfectly framed inside an oversized lion tote creates instant visual appeal. You understand the joke and product simultaneously without needing any setup.
2. The product is the punchline - Instead of demonstrating compartments, straps or materials, the Reel shows the bag’s funniest possible use case. Entertainment communicates the product concept more effectively than a feature walkthrough.
3. Desire becomes the CTA - 425K likes and comments like “I need one” show the creative creates product desire before asking for engagement. “Comment ‘Bag’” simply captures demand the Reel already generated.
Make your product’s cutest or funniest use case the entire creative. If viewers instantly think “I need this,” the CTA only needs to tell them how to get it.
